You after you read this article

It’s been a while since I wrote any fun blogs about the Japanese language, so I figured the best way to warm up is to have a nice chat about one of the most fun words in Japanese: yagaru (やがる). Have you ever wanted to talk like an anime ruffian? Then this is your chance to learn how!

Yagaru means “to have the nerve to.” It is an auxiliary verb that attaches to the stem form* of another verb, which means that it is always part of a larger word. …

Due to audio issues, we had to record this episode multiple times. Thankfully, hybridmink was able to replace me as host when I wasn’t able to make it to the rerecording session. The result is a new and improved versi- Just kidding, of course. All versions of this episode are equally as bad as each other. But if you’re looking for our thoughts on spring anime, eBay erotica, and the life of Berserk author Miura, then give this episode a listen.

As the pandemic begins loosening its grip on some countries, I decided to let the other AniTAY authors out of their cages for another seasonal recommendations article. It was not possible to socially distance all of the bad takes during deliberations, but I think we still managed to compile a collection of anime worthy of our readers’ attention. It helped that this spring season gave us quite a bit to work with!

Everyone wants to get a piece of that Demon Slayer pie, from Gigguk to Gugsy (equally famous anibloggers). But where are the old people? What do they think of the movie? Well wonder no more, my friends, because today we bring a tightly-woven episode of the oldest men hybridmink could dig out of the AniTAY author Discord. And fear not, anime hipsters, for this episode contains more than slayers of demons. From the shining weeb mecca of Akihabara to tiny fishing villages in Fukui, I’ve seen it all. Join me today in my culinary journey through the southern gastropolis of Miyazaki, Japan.

The southernmost of Japan’s main islands, Kyushu is home to Fukuoka, the ramen capital of Japan. Fukuoka is known for its distinctive Hakata-style ramen, a type of noodle soup with straight, thin noodles and savory pork-flavored broth. Ichiran, the largest ramen chain in the country, got its start in this city. The allure of Hakata-style ramen has drawn many a wayward foreigner into its bloated web, but hidden to…

The key to communication, Saku Chitose argues, is a desire for mutual understanding. One must both want to understand and want to be understood for a conversation to progress smoothly. This seems obvious; a conversation by definition is supposed to go both ways. And yet, such sincerity feels increasingly rare in the era of social media takedowns. Chitose-kun wa Ramune Bin no Naka’s premise is to light novel romantic comedies what mutual understanding is to conversation: a seemingly obvious concept becoming strangely uncommon. The series is mostly told from the perspective of the most popular kid in school, Saku Chitose…
